To solve a kidnapping case
they’ll become the hunted.
Firefighter Pat Ryan is stunned when he hears gunfire and two strangers crash through his door. An anonymous tip led journalist Rachel Davenport to a ramshackle cabin, where she helped an abducted teen escape. With Pat and his K-9 rescue dog’s help, they go on the run with deadly kidnappers in pursuit. But with innocent lives at stake, Rachel and Pat must battle foes and fears to live through the night.
From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.
Kidnapped in the Woods by Deena Alexander had my heart racing and adrenaline high from the first page to the last. A wonderful read full of suspense and intrigue but also some Christian undertones with prayers and talks about their beliefs along with romance.
This is Rachel and Pat’s story, along with Jane, who they are trying to save from being a victim of human trafficking. Their paths cross when Rachel and Jane are chased by kidnappers, gunmen, and crime family members. He doesn’t know what he’s in for, but he’s all in as he tries to protect these unexpected and vulnerable visitors to his uncle’s cabin. The addition of Pat’s search and rescue dog, Shadow, was heartwarming since Jane took to him immediately.
The story was filled with twists, turns, and many unexpected decisions and events. Not everyone was as they seemed, which added another layer to the story. There were vivid descriptions, and I could feel the cold, hear the waves and feel their fear.
It’s good guys against bad, and there is much more evil in their midst than they’re aware of. Pat and Rachel don’t know who to trust and often doubt the other’s motives. There is a wonderfully crafted conclusion with loose ends tied up and several happily-ever-afters. I only wished the story had an epilogue to draw us into the future.
Kidnapped in the Woods is set along the New York coast with vivid wintry descriptions and pulse-pounding action. I couldn’t wait to see if the good guys could pull out the win! Ms. Alexander is a new-to-me author, and I look forward to reading more of her books.
Publishers Weekly bestselling author, Deena Alexander grew up in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, where she met and married her high school sweetheart. She recently relocated to Florida with her husband, three kids, a son-in-law, and four dogs. Now she enjoys long walks in nature all year long, despite the occasional alligator or snake she sometimes encounters. Deena’s love for writing developed when her youngest son was born and didn’t sleep through the night, and she now works full-time as a writer and a freelance editor.
