Publication Date: November 18, 2023

When retired police detective Clifford Shaw hesitantly steps off the train in his former hometown of St. Marys, Ontario, the last thing he expects to greet him is a murder. The only thing worse than being inadvertently roped into the investigation is the surprise he receives when the too-good-to-be-true room rental from his lifelong friend Hans has one massive catch. It’s in a shared house with six other retirees. Already hesitant about returning to the town he swore he never would, Cliff has one week to figure out if he wants to refuse the room or give his old town one last chance. All this while he helps unravel a mystery to save ‘The Town Worth Living In’.

The Review

Retired police officer Cliff Shaw appreciates peace and quiet, so when an old friend offers a room at a great price, he returns to his hometown.

Author Jonny Thompson gives readers a quirky cast of octogenarian characters in The Limestone Manor. Not only does Cliff end up in a house full of people, but he arrives as police are investigating the discovery of a body.

The author demonstrates a true gift in character development with Cliff’s dry sense of humor. He’s the epitome of a cranky old man who prefers solitude, but circumstances have landed him in a nest of senior adults who love to talk.

Their escapades push them into the middle of the investigation, where they manage to save the day, proving that old people tend to be underestimated. Along the way, Cliff finds true happiness after decades of being alone.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
