Perfect for fans of Kiersten Modglin’s The ArrangementThe Widow on Dwyer Court is a sexy psychological thriller that will leave you breathless.

Thirty-six-year-old stay-at-home soccer mom Kate Burke is happily married to Matt Parsons, although their marriage looks very different behind closed doors. Kate is no longer interested in having sex with her husband. So, while they still love each other madly, they make an arrangement: Matt can have one-night stands with other women on work trips, but when he returns home, he has to tell Kate about them—every juicy detail.

Because Kate has a secret life writing erotic romance novels, and Matt’s adulterous affairs are her bread and butter.

The family equilibrium is upset, however, when Annie Meyers, an eccentric young widow, moves to town with her daughter. At first Kate is smitten with this wild, witty woman, who gives her a much-needed break from the other picture-perfect suburban moms, although she’s not sure how much of her secret life she’s willing to share with her new friend. But it turns out Annie has secrets too—big ones that could destroy all their lives.

The Review

With an innovative storyline, author Lisa Kusel takes readers on a provocative journey into a woman’s life packed with deception.

Kusel’s book, The Widow on Dwyer Court, focuses on main character, Kate Burke, who writes erotic romance novels under a pen name. Even though she is married, Kate has zero interest in sex. Instead, she encourages her husband to have one-night stands.

The rules are simple, requiring Matt to conduct these affairs while on trips and never with the same woman. Most importantly, he is required to give Kate a detailed account of the encounter.

While that in itself serves as plenty of fodder for potential conflict, the author adds another element featuring Annie, a new resident. From the first encounter, it’s clear there is something odd going on. She’s a strange woman, whether it’s her communication style or her attitude.

Kate enjoys the opportunity to have a new friend, especially since they both have daughters the same age. However, Annie’s secrets threaten to disturb Kate’s creative efforts.

The Widow on Dwyer Court provides an intricate psychological thriller brimming with revenge.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
