He’s going to kill you. He just doesn’t know it yet.

Midnight Jones is an analyst trained to understand the human mind. But everything changes when, in the course of her work, she discovers Profile K’s file – because K stands for killer, and she knows that someone more dangerous than she could have ever imagined walks among them.

Midnight knows what Profile K is capable of before he even commits his first crime. But as the news rolls with the brutal murder of a local woman, no one believes what she tells them: that he is capable of so much worse.

Profile K will kill again – and, terrifyingly, Midnight realises that the moment she found his file was the moment she became his next target. Because Profile K is coming for Midnight – and the only way to escape with her life is to find him before he finds her…

The million-copy bestseller is back with a dark, terrifying journey into the mind of a psychopath that will keep you riveted until the very last page.

The Review

As part of her analyst job at a tech company, Midnight Jones scans various application profiles with the goal of pushing them through to the next stage.

This advanced psychometric testing, combined with artificial intelligence, provides a comprehensive method for digging deep into an applicant’s psyche based on responses to various images.

Author Helen Fields uses this technology as the basis for a nerve-wracking psychological thriller in The Profiler.

When Midnight discovers a Profile K, it throws her into a panic. She knows the applicant behind the profile is someone with an appetite for murder and mayhem, but she can’t tell anyone because of confidentiality requirements.

The author switches perspectives throughout the story to allow the applicant to fill in details. The murderer’s appetite for destruction is evident, especially when the first murder is discovered. He has plans for Midnight, but she is determined to find him first.

Technology plays a key role in the story, kicking off a debate about privacy vs. the need to know. The story moves along at a fast pace, keeping readers invested until the end.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
