The Jackson Davis Mysteries: Book 1
Publication Date: March 18, 2025

Niagara Falls Police Detective Jackson Davis is living a lie.

He has the perfect life: married, two children, a home, a promising career.

Underneath, however, he battles self-doubt and guilt over the incident that cost his partner her sight and her career in an explosion during the pursuit of a suspect. He denies having PTSD or any trauma related to the event, but those around him know better.

When Jackson returns to active duty and is tapped to lead the investigation into the death of a prominent local business woman, all of this comes to the forefront. He must learn to work with a new partner and deal with his personal demons if he is to catch the killer — or he risks losing it all.

The Review

A police detective, recovering from a tragedy that benched him for six months, lands a murder case that pushes him to the limit.

With Shattered Sight, author Liz Milliron launches a new mystery series featuring Detective Jefferson Davis. Told in first person from the detective’s perspective, the primary storyline centers around the death of Sylvia Bramley.

The author serves up clues about a secondary storyline that resulted in Davis losing his partner, Max. Now paired with Rodney Kirke, the two detectives undergo definite growing pains to see if they can work together.

Davis is still somewhat broken after losing his partner, the strain of which flows over to his marriage. There are a number of scenes that illustrate the challenges he faces out of internalized guilt.

The mystery itself is intricate. How did Sylvia die? Did she kill herself, or was she pushed into the water? With an interesting cast of characters with different motives, the detectives have to pull at various threads in order to draw a solid conclusion.

Shattered Sight serves up a new mystery series featuring interesting characters and a solid investigation into a prominent woman’s death.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
