4-STAR REVIEW: THE MAY DAY MURDERS by Rosie Reed

The Description

English Village Witch Cozy: Book 13
Publication Date: April 13, 2026

May Day Magic… and Murder!

The Maiden Upon Avon Spring Fair should be the perfect place to celebrate a birthday — maypoles, Morris dancers, and mountains of cake. Until the May Queen ends up dead on the village green.

For novice witch Evelyn Eldritch, what should have been a cheerful May Day quickly turns into a murder investigation. With four suspicious suspects and a death involving a honeybee, Evelyn can’t resist buzzing into the mystery — much to Detective Inspector Alex Taylor’s dismay.

But murder isn’t the only surprise waiting for her.

A birthday card has arrived in a shower of black glitter from Evelyn’s father, the sinister Lord Vilnius — and his birthday wishes come with a threat attached.

Can Evelyn catch a killer, outwit a dangerous sorcerer, and still find time for birthday cake?

The May Day Murders is the most spellbinding English Village Witch Cozy adventure yet!

The Review

Reuniting with Evelyn and the others is magical, even if there’s another murder to solve in The May Day Murders, the thirteenth book in Rosie Reed’s English Village Witch Cozy series.

Filled with magic, mayhem, and many Beings of Magic kept me turning the pages to see what everyone is up to. It’s Evie’s birthday, and there are celebrations galore filled with friends, family, and food. Alex’s gift to her is a memory crystal, and so apropos for a witch!

There are beautifully detailed descriptions that easily had me visualizing the magic, the treats, and the various locations. The story moves at a quick pace with plenty of twists and turns. With clues and red herrings to sift through, Evie does a good job fitting all the pieces together. There is closure with solving the whodunnit, but a lot more was left uncovered than expected.

About The Author

I love writing, daydreaming, and creating stories. I often write for fun, even when I’m not planning on publishing. But it’s also wonderful to share my stories with you!

I’m a massive Agatha Christie and Terry Pratchett fan, so writing paranormal mystery comes instinctively! I love the understated gentle charm of cozies, and it’s always such a pleasure to spend time in the company of the wonderful sleuths and magical characters that my fellow authors create.

Writing the English Village Witch Cozy series helped to keep me sane during the very strange year of 2020. Evelyn and Alex have done a tremendous job of protecting my mental health, and it’s my pleasure to share this comfort with you.

I do hope you’ll enjoy escaping into the beautiful surroundings of Maiden-Upon-Avon, and having some fun with Evelyn and all the other magical beings who live there! So treat yourself now by taking the phone off the hook of life, and soaking in the bathtub of the English countryside for a while!
