Novice witch Amber Eldritch thought living in Royal Windsor would be a piece of cake. Until a mystery with more twists than a pretzel landed on her plate.
When her dream job as a journalist turned into a nightmare, Amber hoped for a quiet life baking cakes and collecting antiques in her hometown. But with a tourist dead at the Castle, Amber’s compelled to investigate.
Despite objections from the local vampire policeman, Amber always loves a good mystery to sink her teeth into. Not that she’ll get any fangs from him. Just a smile that turns her legs to jelly. Alongside her cat familiar, her grandmother’s ghost, and her childhood bestie with a talking tour bus, Amber faces the ultimate dilemma of every English novice witch – how to find time for a decent cup of tea!

One Fine Day is the second book in the Cat Café Magical Mystery series by Rosie Reed. There are a lot of similarities with her English Village Witch Cozy series and even crossovers with the characters. Amber and Evelyn are cousins and also witches in training. Amber is front and center as an amateur sleuth with her magical training.
There’s a murder of a nonmagical being, and Amber jumps into action searching for clues and whodunnit, much to the chagrin of her werewolf friend, who could be more but is also a copper. There are a lot of Beings of Magic of different kinds woven throughout—werewolves, witches, and others living among the humans. There are also cute animals that have their own unique personalities and magic. I loved how Evelyn’s world and Amber’s coexist and often parallel each other. They also meet at different times and places and are there for each other.
The story has a good flow as many storylines are woven together. There are clues to sift through, and Amber is always by David’s side, giving suggestions and support as he works on the case. Amber is the one who puts all the clues together and figures out whodunnit, which offers nice closure. There’s a blurb about Reed’s next book, and I look forward to reading it.
One Fine Day is a cozy mystery set in England. It features lots of magic and Beings of Magic, and I was looking forward to finding out whodunnit.
I love writing, daydreaming, and creating stories. I often write for fun, even when I’m not planning on publishing. But it’s also wonderful to share my stories with you!
I’m a massive Agatha Christie and Terry Pratchett fan, so writing paranormal mystery comes instinctively! I love the understated gentle charm of cozies, and it’s always such a pleasure to spend time in the company of the wonderful sleuths and magical characters that my fellow authors create.
Writing the English Village Witch Cozy series helped to keep me sane during the very strange year of 2020. Evelyn and Alex have done a tremendous job of protecting my mental health, and it’s my pleasure to share this comfort with you.
I do hope you’ll enjoy escaping into the beautiful surroundings of Maiden-Upon-Avon, and having some fun with Evelyn and all the other magical beings who live there! So treat yourself now by taking the phone off the hook of life, and soaking in the bathtub of the English countryside for a while!
