5-STAR REVIEW: FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES by Tom Avitabile

The Description

Publication Date: February 22, 2022

The bruise on the young goalie’s cheek got girls high school soccer coach Brooke Burrell’s attention. Brooke tries to keep her advantage as the most decorated woman agent ever in government service at bay while dealing with the suspected abusive father – although she’d love to punch his lights out. Her digging reveals the reason for his abusiveness and it connects to a massive international terrorist attack.

When the father is found dead, Brooke is accused of the murder. Suddenly, she is forced to defend herself in court, and in the court of public opinion – while trying to stop the insidious plot to kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people across the globe in one terrifying instant and bring the western world to its knees.

Filled with the nonstop thrills, all-too-real scenarios, and remarkable attention to detail that has made Tom Avitabile a consistent #1 bestseller, Forgive Us Our Trespasses is edge-of-your-seat storytelling of the first order.

The Review

Despite a decorated past with the FBI and specialized governmental units, Brooke Burrell-Morton’s current role is expectant mother. She’s coaching soccer on the side while adjusting to civilian life alongside her husband, Admiral Brett “Mush” Morton. When Brooke is arrested and charged with the murder of a student’s father, it’s all hands on deck to find the real killer. In Forgive Us Our Trespasses, author Tom Avitabile delivers an action-packed thriller with a generous side order of personality.

Take a police procedural, add in a ring of terrorists bent on destruction, and then mix in some of the best investigators on the planet (including Brooke), and you have a recipe for a roller coaster of a read. It’s a race to the finish to not only clear Brooke’s name but to stop an avionic systems hack. Add in a determined television reporter, and events soon get messy.

Not only is the storyline exceptionally crafted with Brooke’s investigation on one side, coupled with the unfolding efforts of the insurgents on the other, but it includes a cast of entertaining characters. Brooke and Mush are a dynamic power couple who apparently have an interesting back story. After reading this book, I made sure to snag a copy of Give Us This Day, the first installment in the Brooke Burrell series. Joining the couple are other super-skilled operatives from the former Quarterback Operations Group, including Kronos, a skilled computer guru, who teams up with Crusher, one of Mush’s tech wizards.

It is impressive to see the investigation unfold. With just a few threads, the group takes seemingly unrelated events and weaves them together into a compelling story that may sound incredibly complex but is delivered in just the right way. Having humor interspersed throughout the conversations enhances the story’s appeal.

Forgive Us Our Trespasses makes a mark as a high octane thriller, leaving me ready for more from author Tom Avitabile.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
