5-STAR REVIEW: ONE LOVE FOR LIV by Marianne Arkins

About The Book

Publication Date: June 27, 2023

Liv is out to prove her high society fiancé is cheating on her. Can she do it without breaking a nail—or falling in love with Mike, the mechanic?

Olivia “Liv” Leigh, wealthy socialite and spa owner, suspects her fiancé of cheating on her. Drastic steps are required to discover whether appearances are deceiving. And if those steps require a bit of stalking, a change of appearance, a hippo-sized dog named Spike, and sacrificing her manicure to clean house for a sexy-but-sloppy man whose neighbor is determined to break several of the strangest Guinness World Records, why should that be a problem?

Mike Peck, a happily single auto mechanic, is more than content sharing his bachelor pad with piles of laundry, dirty dishes, and a sneaky ferret. But when a half-crazed woman in a bad wig shows up on his doorstep, what’s a nice guy to do?

Why, invite her in, unknowingly help her in her search for the truth and, in the process, fall head over heels with a woman who’s never been less his type.

The Review

Certain that her fiancé is cheating on her, socialite Olivia Leigh goes undercover to catch him. What ensues is a comedy of epic proportions, complete with antics from various four-legged characters.

In One Love for Liv, author Marianne Arkins puts Liv on a collision course with Mike Peck, a mechanic. Rather than coming clean, Liv stays in character, which is a far cry from her pampered routine.

With zero experience in the kitchen, her attempt at cooking dinner literally goes up in smoke. It’s one endearing episode after another as Liv tries to navigate a world outside her norm. Her encounters with the overly friendly neighborhood dog, Mike’s pet ferret, and Booboo, the cat, underscore how out of touch she is.

In addition to her newfound freedom is an onslaught of naughty daydreams starring Mike. When her identity is suddenly unveiled, it threatens the budding relationship, leaving her to move forward with her plans to marry a man she doesn’t love. Will Liv get a happily ever after?

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
