The Description

House of Parr Series: Book #3
Publication Date: August 25, 2024

Sarah Parr, the brilliant and vivacious daughter of a titled shipping magnate, enters the glittering royal court of Georgian England in 1792. She soon takes the London season by storm, capturing the heart of the handsome, charismatic, and influential Duke of Stafford.

Yet just as Sarah appears poised to seize the opulent life she has always craved, her path crosses that of the fiery and mysterious Jacques de Beaumont, a famous French nobleman recently fled from the very revolution he helped ignite. Their tempers collide, and the pair seem destined for perpetual enmity. Despite her initial dislike, however, Sarah becomes more and more intrigued by the painful secrets and wounded heart concealed beneath his forbidding exterior – and forced to confront her own.

Masquerade of Destiny, sequel to the critically acclaimed historical romance Cadence to Glory, continues the Parr family saga and follows one young woman’s quest for greatness – and a passionate love beyond her wildest imaginings.

The Review

Debutante Sarah Parr eagerly anticipates her London season accompanied by her best friend. Little does she know the choice she will face.

Author Mary Beth Dearmontakes readers to the end of the 18th century in Masquerade of Destiny as young women vie to be presented at court, establishing themselves as available for suitors.

Rather than being just another pretty face, Sarah challenges the status quo with the boldness of daring to have her own thoughts and no fear of declaring them publicly. This, of course, sets off a perfect storm of conflict within the story, especially with the revelation of a secret.

Ultimately, Sarah must determine if she wants to pursue true love or settle into a role dictated by a titled husband. Perhaps by speaking out about politics, she will find a like-minded partner.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
