The Description

Texas Ever After Series: Book 3
Publication Date: December 17, 2025

Trust no one in the shadows of the piney woods . . .

Letty Hood has spent the last fifteen years of her life hidden away with her grandmother in the backwoods of east Texas to escape the deadly schemes of an uncle who wants her dead. Now, with her twenty-first birthday on the horizon, she is forced to accept the escort of a stranger and return to Houston in secret so she can claim a birthright that will make her one of the wealthiest women in Texas. If she lives long enough to inherit.

Pinkerton agent Philip Carmichael has one duty: get the Radcliffe heiress home alive. Expecting a spoiled girl, Philip is surprised to encounter a woman of rare strength with a kind soul and keen wit. As they journey together, Letty’s resilience wins his admiration, breaking through his hardened cynicism. Yet the threat to her survival grows more menacing with every mile, and Philip fears that keeping Letty out of harm’s way may be just as impossible as keeping her out of his heart.

The Review

Letty Hood lives with her beloved grandmother, where she is safe, although she yearns to be reunited with her mother. As she approaches her 21st birthday, it’s time to claim her inheritance—if she can avoid the danger.

Author Karen Witemeyer combines elements from both Sleeping Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood in Cloaked in Beauty. As a Christian historical romance, the story is set in Texas in the early 20th century. It offers a combination of both romance and adventure, marking the third in the Texas Ever After series.

Pinkerton detective Philip Carmichael must locate Scarlett Radcliffe and deliver her safely to her mother. If he had a set image of what an heiress would be like, chances are it was shattered when he met sheltered Letty. With her treasured red cloak and her trusted wolf, Letty is not only beautiful on the outside but on the inside as well. Philip’s strong character stands out as he protects Letty, taking care to defend her honor.

Their adventures across Texas are filled with excitement, ranging from the rescue of a young boy to a sudden illness. The closer they get, the more dangerous it becomes. Someone is very determined to ensure that Scarlett never claims her inheritance.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
