5-STAR REVIEW: JUDGE NOT by Nikki Stern

The Description

The Sam Tate Mystery Series: Book 4
Publication Date: October 11, 2023

Sam Tate returns to track a serial killer with a warped sense of justice.

Five detectives in five states have been brutally executed by a murderer focused exclusively on law officers. When the FBI invites Sam Tate onto its task force investigating the deaths, she gladly accepts. Though once known as a serial-killer catching cop, she’s hit a wall. Her career is stalled, her past tragedies unresolved, her future uncertain. Still, her experiences make her a valuable asset to the Bureau. Unfortunately, they also make her a target.

#1 New York Times bestseller Harlan Coben meets Lisa Gardner in this twisty thriller about rectifying the sins of the past that will keep you on your toes until the very last page.

A multi-state serial killer is targeting law enforcement officials who have all closed serial killer cases. The twist? Their deaths mirror the cases they resolved.

Author Nikki Stern delivers an action-packed installment in the Sam Tate mystery series with  Judge Not.

Tate, who has earned a reputation for catching killers, joins forces with the FBI to track down the culprit known as the Judge. However, her expertise also puts her in the killer’s crosshairs.

With a solid cast of characters chomping at the bit to take out the killer before he strikes again, the storyline is fast-paced. As with other installments, Tate takes a primary role, putting herself in the middle of danger.

Her character is rather complex. While she’s incredibly skilled at her job, Tate relies on a therapist to help process a childhood full of instability and all of the emotional baggage that comes from hunting down heinous criminals.

Judge Not flips the script as the hunters become the hunted.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
