4-STAR REVIEW: WAND-ERFUL CHRISTMAS by Rosie Reed

The Description

An English Village Witch Cozy Series: Book 10
Publication Date: November 30, 2023

When Evelyn agreed to hire out Locksleigh for a Christmas Eve office party, she should’ve known it would end in tears – or worse, murder. But with the snow falling and no escape, the choice is clear: solve the crime or remain trapped with the killer.

Evelyn’s not only got a murder to solve, but a life-changing decision to make – she’s been offered a job in London, tackling rogue Beings of Evil. She’s reluctant to leave the quaint village of Maiden-Upon-Avon and all her wonderful friends. But the thought of confronting Lord Vilnius once and for all is tempting. What should she do?

To help make up her mind, Evelyn’s visited by three Christmas ghosts, who offer hilarious visions of her past, future, and present – as well as clues to help unwrap this festive murder.

In magical Maiden-Upon-Avon, Evelyn truly has a wand-erful life. But is it time for a new year – and a new challenge?

The Review

Wand-erful Christmas by author Rosie Reed is a cute title for this fast-paced, cozy mystery filled with Christmas cheer, magic and magical beings, ghosts, mayhem, murder, romance, and so much more. I loved returning to An English Village Witch Cozy series and all the familiar characters.

It was great to be reacquainted with characters we’ve met before—especially Evie, Alex, Leia, and Luke—and seeing how their lives and loves are progressing was heartwarming. There are vivid descriptions of locations, snow, the murder scene, food, decorations, and the village that made me feel like I was there. I liked the camaraderie of the characters and how they were there to support one another. The animals were an added bonus.

Evie being visited by the three ghosts of Christmas was reminiscent of A Christmas Carol, which tested her memory, generosity, and fear of her demise. Seeing who transported her to the three Christmases was fun but also held danger and anxiety. There was even a visit by Father Christmas.

The story flowed nicely and held my interest from the first page to the last. As always, there was a murder to solve, and Evie is again in the thick of things. She is an amateur sleuth as well as a witch in training, and she’s always where she’s not supposed to be! Just ask her boyfriend and Deputy Inspector, Alex! The story has twists and turns, along with multiple suspects and red herrings. There is closure in solving the crimes, but I felt there were some loose ends.

Wand-erful Christmas is a cozy mystery with magic, mayhem, and a dash of romance. Sit in front of the fire with a nice cuppa tea and a mince pie, and snuggle under a blanket to see whodunnit!

About The Author

I love writing, daydreaming, and creating stories. I often write for fun, even when I’m not planning on publishing. But it’s also wonderful to share my stories with you!

I’m a massive Agatha Christie and Terry Pratchett fan, so writing paranormal mystery comes instinctively! I love the understated gentle charm of cozies, and it’s always such a pleasure to spend time in the company of the wonderful sleuths and magical characters that my fellow authors create.

Writing the English Village Witch Cozy series helped to keep me sane during the very strange year of 2020. Evelyn and Alex have done a tremendous job of protecting my mental health, and it’s my pleasure to share this comfort with you.

I do hope you’ll enjoy escaping into the beautiful surroundings of Maiden-Upon-Avon, and having some fun with Evelyn and all the other magical beings who live there! So treat yourself now by taking the phone off the hook of life, and soaking in the bathtub of the English countryside for a while!
