4.5-STAR REVIEW: THE PERFECT NURSE by Daniel Hurst

The Description

The Perfect Nurse: Book 1
Publication Date: July 1, 2024

‘My name is Darcy, I’m your nurse and I’m here to help you.’ I repeat the words I’ve said so many times. Except this time, I don’t mean it…

If you saw me walking down the street, you’d think I was pretty ordinary – I wear the typical crisp, white nursing uniform, my hands are scrubbed clean and you’d have no reason to believe I was anything other than a good citizen. A good nurse.

But looks can be deceiving. You shouldn’t trust me – because I don’t even know if I can trust myself.

Now I stare at the reflection in the mirror – dark smudges under my eyes and blood on my hands – listening for the sound of police sirens.

Because the truth is I had to do something terrible. I broke all the rules a nurse should follow. I wanted someone gone so badly. And now they’re dead because of me.

I’m looking over my shoulder everywhere I go because I’m sure someone knows my secret. Then when my home is broken into I know one simple truth: this isn’t over yet…

It’s only the beginning.

The police are the least of my worries now. But to save myself, am I going to have to kill again?

The Review

Darcy cares for people with memory loss, but her latest assignment causes her to question everything.

Author Daniel Hurst crafts a psychological thriller with The Perfect Nurse. Going in to the story, readers grapple with Darcy’s character as they try to discover why she has so much trouble sleeping and what is prompting her suspicions regarding the new patient.

What ensues is an unexpected plot twist that takes the storyline into uncharted territory. Once all the pieces are revealed, puzzling characteristics start to make more sense. The intensity ramps up as Darcy deals with an intruder.

Secondary characters play a crucial role in setting the framework for the twist, particularly Darcy’s coworker, Pippa. As the tension escalates, the author’s skillful approach leads to a much more in-depth plot.

The Perfect Nurse takes readers on an unexpected roller coaster ride with plenty of twists and turns.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
