Master burglar Francis Hoyt is on the run. After walking away from his arraignment in a Connecticut courtroom, he’s now a fugitive who has to figure out what he’s going to do with the rest of his life.
And so, he heads west, to Los Angeles, where he meets Dakota, a young true crime podcaster who happens to be doing a series on Hoyt. At the same time, he’s approached by a mysterious attorney who makes Hoyt an offer he can’t refuse: break into a “mob bank,” and liberate the contents.
Francis Hoyt has made a career as a skilled burglar capable of pulling off the most challenging heists. A year after he walks away from his arraignment and starts over in California, he faces two unique situations that threaten his freedom.
Author Charles Salzberg creates a main character who is obviously on the wrong side of the law, but readers will find themselves fascinated by Hoyt’s skill. Man on the Run brings the past and present together in dual storylines, so there is a good understanding of how events have transpired.
As a true crime podcaster, Dakota would love nothing more than to delve into the life and times of Francis Hoyt. The author spends time developing Dakota as a character, so she comes to life when Hoyt approaches her. Although she thinks the narrative is in her control, she doesn’t realize Hoyt calls the shots.
The heat gets turned up when Hoyt’s job to rob a mob vault goes terribly wrong, and he finds himself in the crosshairs of the mob. Forced to regroup, Hoyt makes an explosive choice to protect his freedom.
Man on the Run delivers a fascinating perspective of a man who is essentially the ultimate criminal. Francis Hoyt must use all his skills to find a way out.
He has written fifteen books, including From Set Shot to Slam Dunk, an oral history of the NBA & Missy Hyatt, First Lady of Wrestling. He lives in New York City.
