5-STAR REVIEW: WEDDING ISSUES by Elle Evans

The Description

Publication Date: April 2, 2024

Competition for a bridal magazine cover unleashes mayhem, forcing a mastermind maid of honor to stop being a people pleaser and start figuring out what she wants out of life. A hilarious, smart coming-of-age story.

Olivia “Liv” Fitzgerald’s life is on ambition autopilot. The soon-to-be-lawyer has her life plan set and can talk anyone into anything. Well, almost anything. When her scheming aunt throws her cousin, Kali, into a competition for Southern Charm’s cover alongside Liv’s best friend, Leighton, all hell breaks loose. To save the day, Liv only has to:

a) Secure the Southern Charm cover for Leighton
b) Keep Aunt Charlotte happy—and keep Kali’s wedding running smoothly
c) Finish her final year of law school and nab a coveted NYC big law job
d) Win over the guy of her dreams

Easy, right? From engagement parties to rehearsal dinners, readers will root for Liv as she balances her schemes, dreams, and double maid-of-honor duties.

The Review

Although the calendar says it is April, the hottest beach reads are already hitting the shelves. Author Elle Evans sets the bar high with a main character determined to topple any obstacle in her path.

Even if that obstacle happens to be the Evil Empress, aka her aunt, all Liv Fitzgerald wants is to finish law school, get her dream job offer, and land her bestie on the front cover of an elite bridal magazine. Then she can drop the news about how she really wants to continue hooking up with her bestie’s off-limits big brother.

Wedding Issues takes all of Liv’s carefully laid plans and throws them into chaos. The cover spot she coveted for her friend, Leighton, also happens to be on Aunt Charlotte’s list for her daughter, Kali.

Liv finds herself serving as maid of honor for both weddings. With a competition underway for the coveted cover, she has to draw on her resources and navigate the snares set by Aunt Charlotte. With her friendship, her future job and her heart in the balance, disaster is only a step away.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
