Summary

Fair Game is another novella and a super quick read.  The book ends with a bombshell I should have seen coming and now I am anxiously awaiting the release of Waiting Game, which is in a couple weeks.  If you like a good fake relationship story, this series might be for you.

3.5 STAR REVIEW: Waiting Game by Lisa Suzanne

WaitingGame-REVIEW-FBThe Description

Vegas Aces Series: Book 4
Publication Date: April 1, 2021

My wedding to Prince Charming is interrupted with accusations that it’s a sham.

It is, but we both hold tight to the story that we’re marrying for love. I don’t have to fake it, but I’m not so sure about my husband.

As I play the waiting game for him to return home from training camp, I start to find my niche with the wives of his pro football teammates. But our marriage contract is only valid for one year.

If it’s all just for show, why do I feel a little sad at the thought of losing this new club I’m part of… and why does my heart leap into my throat every time my husband takes the field?

The Review

Waiting Game is book 4 in the Vegas Aces series. As I’ve said in all my prior reviews, you have to read these in order as it’s following the progression of Ellie and Luke’s relationship, and jumping in at this point would be pointless. That said, this was the weakest of the books for me.

Maybe it’s because we’re four books into this relationship, but this is the point in most books where there’s a slight lull before the ending climax. And it showed. I felt that there wasn’t as much meat to the story as in the prior books. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed it. But I wasn’t turning the pages quite as frantically as I had with the previous stories.

Luke was absent for a huge chunk of the book with Ellie navigating her new role as football wife without him. Plus, there’s a little wrench in their happiness that’s been escalating since book one. And then another bombshell moment as the book ends… and Ellie feels Luke starting to slip away once again.

This series is going to wrap with End Game and what I will assume is a happily-ever-after for Ellie and Luke. I can’t wait for that final installment of this series to be released to see how Ms. Suzanne pulls this all together. This wasn’t my favorite in the series, but a few of the storylines advanced, so it was necessary. I do recommend the book if you’re already invested in the series. And if not, go start with Home Game.
